Pick. Snack. Snap. – Choose Maryland Apples! Maryland has over twenty varieties of apples all offering unique flavor profiles and uses. In the month of October, celebrate Maryland apple month by visiting one of the many orchards available across the state! Apples are a delicious snack and also offer the following benefits:
- Low in calories
- Natural fiber (about 4g per medium apple)
- Portable, on-the-go snack that doesn’t require any prep (except washing!)
- Ranges from sour to sweet
- Variety of uses from salads to desserts!
Not only are apples a healthy snacking alternative but they are also easy to pack and provide a variety of easy snacking opportunities.
Apple Varieties
Take time during the beautiful fall weather to pick apples with your family and friends and don’t forget to try the apple cider slushies and the apple cider doughnuts! (Or, make your own treats at home using the handy recipe guide below.)
It is important to remember this season that due to devastating freezes this past spring which resulted in crop losses across the state, some apple varieties may be unavailable this year and some orchards may be closed or have amended hours. It is more important than ever to support the businesses if you can!
Then go home and snack on those apples! Don’t forget to snap a pic and post it on social media with the hashtag #pickpacksnap for a chance to win.
